The Worthington Glacier, near Valdez, AK.
The glacier is located just north of Valdez Alaska and near Thompson Pass and is just off the road from the Richardson Highway. Nearby Thompson Pass is the snowiest place in Alaska. There is a visitor center and a large parking lot with a path that leads to the glacier. The average amount of snowfall in the mountains that feed this glacier is over 250 inches per year. According to several sources, this glacier has been retreating for the last 150 years and more rapidly during the past 20 years. There were several informational panels outside the visitor center and several of them were photographed and included below the photos found on this page. |
